How does ScreenDNS work?

ScreenDNS is an easy solution to implement; taking a maximum of just 30 minutes to set up. Simply point your router, gateway or DHCP server’s DNS settings to the ScreenDNS IP address, then register your network IPs and configure your settings in our web interface. That’s all it takes to have the easiest and most effective system in place to protect your network and users.

ScreenDNS processes your DNS request, if it’s not in the caching DNS a lookup goes through the Root Name System – while doing that, it has time to perform an asynchronous lookup in multiple databases. The blocking criteria are divided into categories, which are maintained by our security experts. ScreenDNS currently exists in three different categories:

Reputational – Suspicious & possibly dangerous
Malice – Confirmed Malicious/fraudulent
Abusive – Confirmed Child pornography
